How to have a tastefully themed wedding

Only 10 minutes down the road from where I live Caldicot Castle wedding venue in South Wales is incredible, and not such a little secret. It is a magnificent castle set in 55 acres of a country park. There are plenty of photography opportunities from medieval stone walls to whimsical lakes. With a wedding set on Halloween weekend and the castle's reputation be haunted made for a fun filled day.

The couple live in London but wanted to return to the countryside to get married. The logistic of organising were potentially tricky with the distance in between and busy jobs in the big smoke. They chose to use all local vendors which really helped as they knew the venue and what works for a wedding day.

Halloween themes can be tacky. But this couple used elements such as the colours and tasteful pumpkin decorations to include the time of year in a subtle way. The parkland of the castle helped too, as the autumn leaves gave a golden orange backdrop to the wedding photos.

The bridal preparations were in a lovely rented farm house in Kilgwrrwg which is near Chepstow. It allowed the wedding party to make a holiday out of it. Also allowing me to have great light and space to photograph the bridal details. Charlie’s wore a long sleeved lace Tea length wedding dress and funky purple Irregular Choice shoes. Her jewellery was so thoughtful with handmade silver daffodil earrings and her grandmothers vintage pearls.

The bridesmaids were in purple to match and the honorary male bridesmaid opted for a suit just in case. The wedding bouquets were incredible with purple iris and sunflowers to continue the autumn feel.

I was delighted to see the castles reception room transformed into a medieval banquet hall ( all be it vegan and gluten free). With twinkling fairy lights and limoncello flowing. The ceilidh band encouraged dancing which entertained the guests and kept the ghosts at bay. A fabulous wedding and I feel so lucky to have such an incredible wedding venue in South Wales
