There are many things to prepare for your big day, including your wedding hair.

While your stylist will be doing the hard work, you can play a big part in the lead up to help ensure your locks are perfect.

From how to eat your way to healthy hair to how to make your hair soft and shiny with the right treatments, here are the top pre-wedding hair prep tips:

Deep treatments:

Pamper your hair with moisturising treatments in the months leading up to the ceremony. Think hair masks and deep conditioners which you can apply for 30 minutes once a week. You can also give your scalp a massage to help stimulate the hair follicles, promoting hair growth and strength.

Be gentle:

Heat and styling products can dry out your hair, making it brittle and weak. In addition to nourishing and hydrating treatments, having a break from your hairdryer, curling tongs and straighteners is another way of avoiding dry hair. Try braids and hair rollers if you really need to style your hair.

You are what you eat:

This applies to your hair as well as your body. Drink lots of water and eat foods rich in nutrients that are thought to aid shine and growth. Salmon is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids and protein, and eggs are an easy way of increasing your vitamin B levels.

Cut and colour:

If you usually colour your hair, make sure you book an appointment with your normal colourist close enough to your wedding day to avoid too much re-growth, but with ample time to allow it to settle. As for a trim, get this booked in too, so that your hair is free from split ends and straggly strands on the big day.

Soft and shiny hair made easy

In addition to basic care and styling tips on how to make your hair soft at home, nourishing oils are a great option to get your locks beautiful and silky ahead of the wedding. You can apply them daily to dry or wet hair, to help soften your tresses and increase shine. As for tools, try using a boar bristle brush to comb from roots to ends – this lifts your scalp’s natural oils from the roots and coats the entire strands, making your hair look smoother.
